Luis Carlos Arias Leiva — Band Manager
Luis Carlos has worked in the technology industry for over ten years as a developer, QA engineer, and most recently as a Scrum Master implementing Agile methodologies. He is very passionate about improving processes, discovering new tools, and ensuring that he and the teams he works with always do their best. He has several hobbies; he is a drummer, an avid camper, loves to hike, and enjoys Crossfit.
Where’s your hometown? – In Cartago, Costa Rica.
What’s your spirit animal? – The Wolf.
Favorite place you’ve traveled to? – Portland, Oregon.
How many years have you worked in your field? – 11.
Best advice you have received personally or professionally? – Enjoy life, respect other people, and never stop pursuing your dreams.
If you could perform on stage with one famous musician/group, who would it be and why? – Led Zeppelin is the best Rock ‘n Roll band of all time, but since they’re retired, I’d go with Greta Van Fleet
How do you spend your free time? – Sleeping! But I also like camping, hiking, hanging out with friends and family.
If you could travel back in time to any period in history, when would it be? – I’d definitely go to the US back in the ’60s.
What is your guilty pleasure TV show? – I don’t watch much TV but I spend my evenings watching YouTube.
Best childhood memory? – Being raised on a farm has always been very memorable.
Where do you go to relax and recharge? – Anywhere quiet, I like being outdoors.
What made you want to work at Gorilla Logic? – Because of the great things I heard about Gorilla Logic back in the day, I realize now it’s way better than I thought!
What is your personal motto? – “We lift by raising others.”
Something that your LinkedIn profile couldn’t tell us? – My high levels of passion and enthusiasm.
Who are the biggest cheerleaders in your life? – My wife and parents.
What was one of the most rewarding leadership positions you have had? – I am really having the time of my life at Gorilla Logic! I am thankful and honored to work here, I really enjoyed my Scrum Master role and am currently loving my Band Manager position.
Best advice when heading into an interview? – Be yourself and show confidence and ask questions if you have doubts.
Best advice when meeting with a client? – Be prepared! Study your data and anticipate any questions.
Favorite tech blog/website/publication? – I like reading Wired magazine and Motherboard publications online.
What motivated you to pursue working in your current field? – I’m all about people and results, this career makes me stand out while doing work I really love.
What qualities make someone successful in the tech world? – You need to be persistent, you have to be able to overcome problems with a great attitude. Also, be prepared to face lots of ambiguity, sometimes with limited information. Do everything ahead of time and never hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
