David Moreno Cantero — Senior Java Consultant
David is one of our amazing Senior Java Developers here at Gorilla Logic. He has been working as a Backend Developer for just over 6 years now. When David is off the clock he plays Cello, enjoys video games, recently he has really gotten into cooking, and loves to read. We are so happy to have him as a part of our Band!
Where’s your hometown? I was born in San José, but I actually grew up in Cartago, right now I live in Tejar del Guarco, and I love it.
What’s your spirit animal? Grey Wolf.
Favorite place you’ve traveled to? Cartagena, Colombia it was incredible!
How many years have you worked in your field? I’ve been working as a Backend Engineer since 2015. I also got the opportunity to work in Android mobile development for a year before that.
Best advice you have received personally or professionally? “You never fail until you stop trying”, Albert Einstein
What is an underrated product that you believe deserves more attention? Startups enterprises of Mobile devices like Xiaomi and OnePlus.
If you could perform on stage with one famous musician/group, who would it be and why? Carlos Santana for sure, he really bares his soul through the guitar and I want to be a part of that.
How do you spend your free time? I play the Cello in an Orchestra, I play video games, and I love to read.
If you could travel back in time to any period in history, when would it be? Queen’s Concert in the Wembley Stadium, July 11th, 1986.
What is your guilty pleasure TV show? Two and a half men.
Best childhood memory? Listening to my grandfather play the guitar and sing.
Where do you go to relax and recharge? Most of the time, music is my true escape but I like Puerto Viejo a lot for vacations.
What’s one of your most embarrassing memories? One of my most embarrassing memories was doing an improvised speech to a hundred people, about a random topic that we have to take from a box at University. It definitely helped me become a better public speaker.
What made you want to work at Gorilla Logic? When I heard about Gorilla Logic I only heard good things about the people who work there and the work they were doing.
What is your personal motto? “A harmful truth is better than a useful lie” – Thomas Mann
What is your most used tool in your office? The laptop, it’s actually is the only one that I use, maybe my whiteboard once in a while.
Something that your LinkedIn profile couldn’t tell us? My passion is music, all of it.
Who are the biggest cheerleaders in your life? My grandparents, my sister, and my parents.
What was one of the most rewarding leadership positions you have had? I was president of the Students Association in Paraíso Branch, UCR, and Coordinator of the Leadership program in the same place.
Best advice when heading into an interview? Be calm, the people want you as much as you want the job.
Best advice when meeting with a client? Be yourself, it makes the client feel safer and confident.
Now that you have greater insight on the world (maybe;)), what would you go back and tell your 18-year-old self? The best years of your life are about to start! Take all that University has to offer and transform it into experiences for the rest of your life.
Favorite tech blog/website/publication? Actually, I love the one from Gorilla Logic there’s a lot of useful information there.
What motivated you to pursue working in your current field? I always loved Java as a student and I love it now as a career.
What qualities make someone successful in the tech world? Persistence, hard work, and innovation.
