Ana Beatriz Bravo – UI/UX Designer

Ana is a UI/UX designer as well as a self-taught photographer. She graduated from TEC as an Industrial Design Engineer and specialized in interaction design and user experience design. Ana has always felt a deep interest in the relationship between a person and a product/service and how she can help create memorable user experiences as a designer.

Whereʼs your hometown? – Cartago, Costa Rica. It is located in the center of the country, surrounded by mountains. It is well known for the Irazú volcano, the Basilica, cold weather, and the Ruinas (a church that is in ruins).

Whatʼs your spirit animal? – I would say that the panda bear is my spirit animal. I always liked them as a child and then after learning about what they mean to the Chinese culture, I liked them even more. They symbolize balance, fragility, sweetness, and strength.

Favorite place youʼve traveled to? – One of my favorite places Iʼve traveled to is Malaga, Spain. Itʼs a city full of contrasts and culture. You can find modern and colorful buildings such as the Pompidou Museum as well as historic buildings like the Cervantes Theater or the main cathedral. There is plenty to do there, you wonʼt get bored. One of the things I enjoyed the most was walking around the historic center and the Malagueta (near the beach), as well as going to the Gibraltar viewpoint from where you can see the entire city—at night it is especially beautiful when you can see all the lights. Also, the food is delicious, if you ever go, I recommend you to try “camarones al pil pil” and the famous “espetos.” You wonʼt regret it.

How many years have you worked in your field? –  Iʼm an industrial designer with an emphasis in visual communication. Iʼve been working as a UI/UX Designer for almost 8 years.

Best advice you have received personally or professionally? – “Donʼt forget your dreams and who you are, do what you feel more passionate about” and “Put your heart in everything you do”.

If you could perform on stage with one famous musician/group, who would it be and why? –  It would be with the Backstreet Boys hahaha I used to sing and dance to all their songs as a teenager, I loved them. I even went to one of their concerts and bought each record they launched. I must say that I still remember their songs and I can sing along to most of them (guilty about that haha). Update! Funny thing, when I wrote this I didn’t know I was going to meet them this year. It was the best day of my life and I haven’t gotten over it yet 🙂

How do you spend your free time? –  Thereʼs a lot of ways I like to spend my free time. If it is sunny I like to wake up early and go out, walk around San José, and have some breakfast by myself or with a friend. I like photography, so most of the time I organize a photoshoot on a day that Iʼm free. Sometimes I just go to have lunch or coffee with a friend and end up taking pictures of an idea we just had. When it is rainy out, I like to stay home with my dogs, wake up a little late, cook for my self, and watch a series or a movie.

Where do you go to relax and recharge? – Somewhere in the mountains. The trees, sound of birds, and fresh air help me recharge and fill up with good energy.

What made you want to work at Gorilla Logic?  – The opportunity to go back and pursue my dreams, working as a UI/UX designer with a group of talented people, and in a place where I can grow as a professional in my field.

What is your personal motto? –  “Do it despite the fear”, “You can!”

Best advice when meeting with a client? – Be confident and humble, be open to suggestions, and listen.

Now that you have greater insight on the world (maybe;)), what would you go back and tell your 18 year old self? –  Donʼt be afraid, believe in yourself, you are capable to achieve everything you set out for. Things will get hard sometimes but donʼt give up, there is nothing you canʼt overcome.
