Oscar is a professor at Universidad de Costa Rica and a Scrum Master at Gorilla Logic. In his spare time, Oscar spends a lot of time playing with his daughter, going to concerts, playing soccer with his friends, listening to music, and watching American Football.

Best advice you have received personally or professionally? Make sure that as a leader, you help people become leaders. Then they can do the same thing for other people.
What is an underrated product that you believe deserves more attention? Keychains!
How many years experience do you have in your field? 11 years
If you could perform on stage with one famous musician/group, who would it be and why? – It would be Iron Maiden. Their career is an inspiration to me. The fact that they spent their life doing what they love, for that long, and still enjoy it is admirable. Plus, they are super cool and I really love that they put so much into the lyrics they write.
If you could travel back in time to any period in history, when would it be? – 1800’s. I would love to witness the Industrial Revolution.
What is your guilty pleasure TV show? – Not easy to say, but… Gilmore Girls
Best childhood memory? – Going to the beach with my family.
Where do you go to relax and recharge? – Riding my bike gives me that sense of relaxation, quiet and peace.
What’s one of your most embarrassing memories? – Back in high school, I was running towards the gym. It was pouring rain and I fell face first on a pile of mud right in front of everyone. Not fun at the moment.
What made you want to work at Gorilla Logic? – The environment and reputation of the company. Everyone in the tech world in Costa Rica is talking about Gorilla. To me, it was a goal that I was able to reach, and I couldn’t be happier.
What is your personal motto? – Live and let live
What is your most used tool in your office? – Headphones
Something that your LinkedIn profile couldn’t tell us? – I think I have a natural talent for teaching. This is something I have been working on developing.
Who are the biggest cheerleaders in your life? – My wife and my daughter.
What was one of the most rewarding leadership positions you have had? – Being a teacher for sure. Being able to teach and learn from people is one of the biggest responsibilities I have ever had the pleasure to have.
Best advice when heading into an interview? – Don’t try to be what you think they want you to be, just be who you are.
Best advice when meeting with a client? – Be honest and respectful. Always speak with facts and try to be prepared.
Now that you have greater insight on the world (maybe;), what would you go back and tell your 18 year old self? – Read more. Knowledge opens a lot of doors and gives us tools to react to the different situations that life presents. Read about anything and everything. Read bios, read about technology, read about history… read.

What motivated you to pursue working in your current field? – The interaction with people. Working with a team of developers, on any of their fields, and the interaction with the clients is something that motivates me.
What qualities make someone successful in the tech world? – Effort and motivation. You need to stay updated. Read, try different things, methodologies, languages, tools, etc. Try and then make decisions on whether it was beneficial or not. Do your own labs at home, right some lines of code, read about projects people are working on and just do stuff.
