Medellín, Colombia – Gorilla Logic is thrilled to announce it is sponsoring the 2023 Women Who Code Medellín development program, “From Zero to Hero: Introduction to Software Development,” taking place in Medellín, Colombia this spring and summer. The program is an initiative by Women Who Code Medellín and is meant for women who are interested in technology and want to guide their professional life toward this discipline.

Over the past decade, Medellín has become a technical epicenter in Latin America, earning the nickname “the Silicon Valley of Latin America.” In 2013, the Wall Street Journal and Citibank named Medellín the world’s most innovative city in the world, beating out cities like New York and Tel Aviv. In 2017, a government study on entrepreneurship in Colombia found that early-stage startups had already generated nearly 8,000 new jobs.

The application process to join the Women Who Code Medellín program began in early February 2023, and just 25 students were chosen out of 100 applicants. The program offers the students technical courses each Saturday, wherein four Gorilla Logic technical tutors and three other tutors will help educate and encourage the participants as they learn this new discipline.

“Every year, we try to inspire women in the tech industry. However, we realized we were not focused on creating a learning path for those outside the industry, at home, or those who are hesitant to build a new career around tech,” says Liliana Franco, Co-Director of Women Who Code Medellín. “So, three years ago we started the boot camp ‘From Zero to Hero’ to help educate women who want to start their career in tech, and we’ve been fortunate to always count on amazing sponsors to help us accomplish that goal. This year we are partnering with Gorilla Logic. From the moment they arrived in Medellín, they expressed their desire to help the local tech community succeed. Thanks to Gorilla Logic and the seven volunteer tutors, we can impact the lives of 30 people who will receive a completely free 60-hour program to learn the basics of tech stacks including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.”

The course is set to finish on August 26, when a graduation ceremony will be held to celebrate the accomplishments of the program participants. The graduates will leave the program with a strong foundation of software development knowledge that will help launch their new careers in tech.
